San Diego Engagement Photographer for an Arizona Couple Who Keeps Choosing this Coastal Gem

As a San Diego engagement photographer I get a front-row seat to all kinds of love stories, but Kobe and Rachel’s felt like watching two people finally arrive at the place they’d been orbiting forever. Not just each other — though yes, obviously each other — but San Diego too, the coastal fantasy they’ve returned to ten times like it’s their shared emotional support city.

And honestly? I get it.

Some couples choose Vegas. Some choose Napa. Kobe and Rachel choose salt air, sea caves, and sunsets that look aggressively Photoshopped even in real life.

These two have technically been together since high school. Their friends had been rooting for them from day one. Kobe told me there was one particular night when he gave her a ride home after hanging out and her friends were all giggling about him driving her home, acting so weirdly obvious about the whole thing that Kobe finally thought, Wait. Is this my sign?

It was.

Now they live in Phoenix, but San Diego has become their place. Ten trips and counting. The kind of destination that slowly turns into tradition before you even realize it’s happening. Rachel actually lived in the area for a short time when she was younger, so coming back to La Jolla feels layered for her — familiar in this comforting, nostalgic way that makes every visit feel personal.

Which is exactly why this beach engagement session worked so beautifully here.

La Jolla has this magical contradiction to it. It’s lively and buzzing and full of people chasing sunsets along the coast, yet somehow it still manages to create these tiny pockets of intimacy. Even with beachgoers nearby and tourists wandering the sidewalks, Kobe and Rachel felt completely locked into their own world. Like the noise around them softened every time they looked at each other.

That’s what I love most about being an engagement photographer in San Diego. The way a location can feel cinematic without losing the realness of the people in it.

We wandered along the coastline while the ocean threw that classic La Jolla glow across everything. The cliffs looked dramatic, the breeze kept catching the palm tree and Rachel’s hair, and every little interaction between them felt natural and easy — the kind of connection that only comes from growing up together. It’s no wonder these two keep coming back. San Diego has a way of making people romanticize their own lives a little more.

By the end of the engagement session, it felt less like photographing visitors and more like documenting two people slowly finding their future hometown. You could feel how attached they are to this place already. Every trip deepens it I’m sure. At this point, Phoenix may just be the current chapter. Honestly, I wouldn’t bet against them ending up here someday.
