I’ve photographed this sweet San Diego crew before—mom, dad, their adorable son, in these lifestyle beach photos. They’re the kind of people who remind you why being a San Diego family photographer is the best job ever. This time, we swapped the sandy shores of Coronado for the lush, timeless beauty of Balboa Park and included his little sister.

We originally planned another beach session, but life had other ideas—specifically, a hand injury for their little guy. (No waves, no sand… no problem.) Instead, we took our adventure to Balboa Park, where the stunning architecture, vibrant gardens, and golden-hour light gave us an entirely different kind of magic.

Their little guy, zoomed around like nothing happened, and I promise you, he is not one to be contained. His parents? Absolute pros. They rolled with it all—pausing for snuggles, and making sure he had just as much fun as ever.

That’s what I love about this job. Real life doesn’t stop for picture day, and honestly? That’s where the magic is. Those in-between moments—the ones where you’re wiping tiny noses, sneaking in hugs, or laughing at your kid’s latest silly face—those are the ones you’ll want to remember most.

As a San Diego family photographer, I’ll say this: although I’m truly a San Diego beach photographer, Balboa Park is a dream! The Spanish-style architecture, the hidden gardens, the way the light filters through the trees and flowers—it’s basically a giant, open-air studio, minus the stress of chasing tides or dodging rogue seagulls. (Bonus points for easy parking and post-session ice cream stops.)
