As a San Diego engagement photographer (and, on days like this, a total sap for love), I live for moments like these. Rory and Hannah’s proposal at Sunset Cliffs was one of those magical evenings you want to bottle up forever.

Picture this: golden hour (but clouds) on the cliffs of San Diego with the waves crashing dramatically below. And then, right there on the edge of the world, Rory drops to one knee. Cue tears, gasps, and a resounding yes.

Here’s the backstory: Rory and Hannah have been together for eight years. Eight! They moved to New York together seven years ago, taking a leap not just into a new city but into building a life together in a new country. They’re originally from overseas, and after all these years of adventuring, adulting, and growing together, Rory decided it was finally time to make things official.

Now, let’s talk about the proposal. Rory nailed the surprise. Hannah had absolutely no idea. I mean, she thought they were just enjoying a casual evening stroll along Sunset Cliffs, taking in the epic San Diego views. (Classic decoy move.) Meanwhile, I was there, stealthily hanging back with my camera, pretending to be just another tourist snapping the sunset.

And then it happened. Rory got down on one knee, pulled out a ring, and asked the question that turned their already amazing day into a moment they’ll never forget.

Hannah’s reaction? Pure magic. She was shocked. Like, “is this really happening?” kind of shocked. Tears flowed. Happy, overwhelmed, oh-my-gosh-he-actually-did-it tears. And let me tell you, capturing that kind of raw emotion as a San Diego proposal photographer is why I love what I do.

After the big moment, we spent the rest of the evening wandering the cliffs and taking engagement portraits that captured their love, laughter, and the insane beauty of Sunset Cliffs. Hannah and Rory couldn’t stop smiling (or staring at that gorgeous ring). The whole vibe was a perfect mix of romance and celebration.
