There’s something about La Jolla that just gets it. The sparkling coastline, the breeze that says, “Hey, I’m salty and fabulous,” and the golden-hour light that flatters everyone. It’s like the ultimate wingman for love stories—and Kyah and Elliott brought one heck of a love story to tell so they hired me, a San Diego engagement photographer, to create indelible memories.

They’re not your typical “We just got engaged!” couple. Oh no. Kyah and Elliot have been together for years. Like, “Hey, we’ve built a whole life together” years. Like, “We’ve got FOUR kids who are rooting for us to finally make this thing official” years. They decided to make the engagement photography happen right here in sunny San Diego, taking a little break from the chill of Northern Utah.

For their engagement session, Kyah wore this adorable white-and-blue striped dress that made her look like a walking Pinterest board in the best way. Elliot kept it casual-cool in shorts and a coordinating blue top. But let’s not pretend this shoot was just about the aesthetics. (Okay, it kind of was. La Jolla’s that good-looking.) It was about capturing the magic of a love that’s grown deeper with every year, every kid, every shared laugh, and every time they’ve chosen each other through the chaos of life.

Kyah and Elliot’s engagement session was filled with laughter, a whole lot of hand-holding, and some of the best smiles I’ve seen. These two? They radiate the kind of love that says, “We’ve been through it, and we’re still here—stronger, better, and somehow even more in love.”
