If you look up “pregnancy goals” in the dictionary, you’ll probably find a picture of my friend Emily, to be exact. Athlete, San Diego local, and now, mom-to-be-extraordinaire. When she told me she was expecting her first baby, I didn’t just scream—I cheered. This kid is about to hit the family jackpot. So when it came time to document her San Diego maternity portraits? La Jolla was the only place that could keep up.

If you’ve ever been to La Jolla, you know it’s basically Southern California showing off. Dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, and ocean views that look like they were ripped straight from a postcard. It’s the kind of place where the waves put on a show, sea lions nap like they own the place, and every sunset feels like a personal gift from God. As a San Diego beach photographer, I love how this spot brings a mix of rugged beauty and softness—the perfect metaphor for motherhood itself. We wandered along the coastline, soaking in the salty air, with that golden-hour glow making everything feel even more magical.

As much as this shoot was about celebrating Emily and her soon-to-arrive little one, it was also about celebrating this season of life. That bittersweet, exciting, holy-cow-it’s-really-happening moment when you realize everything is about to change in the best way possible.

Emily, you’re already nailing this mom thing. Your baby is so lucky to have a strong, smart, loving mama (who also happens to crush maternity fashion). And I’m so lucky to call you my friend.
