San Diego beach photographer here, reporting for baby birthday cuteness duty: What better way to celebrate your baby turning one than by taking them to the beach for a sun-soaked beach photo session that captures everything from their squishy cheeks to their cake-smashing skills?

This little mermaid just hit the big O-N-E, and I got to celebrate with her and her family right on the sand in beautiful La Jolla, San Diego. The spot we chose? Pure magic. The kind of beach that looks like it was filtered through rose-colored glasses—glowing light, gentle waves, and zero crowds. Basically, a beach photographer’s dream (and a toddler’s playground).

The boys brought the energy—running wild, splashing, digging, laughing… and maybe even photobombing their baby sister’s close-ups. But honestly? That’s the good stuff. I don’t come to the beach to pose people stiffly in the sand. I come to document what family really looks like: movement, connection, and yes, maybe even a little chaos.

And then—oh yes—we ended the session with the main event: a full-on smash cake moment right there on the shore. Frosting on the cheeks. Sand in the toes. Sticky baby hands in the air like she just didn’t care.

So thank you to the Taneo fam for letting me be part of this milestone. I promise, in a blink, she’ll be off to kindergarten, and you’ll be SO glad you captured these sandy, sugary moments while you could.
