Little did Baillee know, this wasn’t just any beach stroll. This was a pivotal moment in her life, and I got to be there as their San Diego proposal and engagement photographer.

Here’s the backstory: Jake and Baillee are high school sweethearts who broke up, sort of went their separate ways, and then—plot twist—got back together after two years apart. (Can you say “meant to be”?) With some of the details she told me, their relationship actually feels like the rom-com we all wish our lives could be. And when Jake reached out to me, planning to pop the question in a place that’s special to both of them, I was all in.

Pacific Beach was the perfect choice. It’s where they’d made some incredible memories, and now, it’s where they’d make their biggest one yet. And the sunset this evening? Unreal! Thanks to a bit of haze from fires around Southern California (smoke, you’re complicated, but wow, do you make the sky look incredible). The sky was a mix of fiery oranges, soft pinks, and golden light that seemed straight out of a Nicholas Sparks movie. Karma, their sweet pup, trotted alongside them, blissfully unaware that she was witnessing her humans’ biggest moment yet.

After the San Diego proposal, we did some gorgeous engagement portraits along the water. The post-proposal glow, the haze-painted sky, and the love these two share? Absolute magic.
