La Jolla cliffside proposal photographer reporting for duty—and let me tell you, this one had everything: an empty seat at Sunset Bench, a January evening that felt illegally warm, and a love story that started under a full moon and ended with a very enthusiastic yes.
As a San Diego beach photographer, I get front-row seats to some pretty epic moments, but Tim and Cory’s La Jolla proposal? That one hits different.
How a Full Moon Hike Turned Into Forever
Tim and Cory didn’t meet on an app. Or through friends. Or at a bar with bad lighting and loud music.
They met on a full moon hike.
Two strangers, same trail, same glowing moon overhead. A brief conversation turned into something more when Cory mentioned an interest in joining the military—and Tim, who had real-life military experience, suddenly became more than just a friendly face on a hike. Cory slipped Tim her phone number to learn more, having no idea that this one gesture would lead to life long moments and memories.
What started as a brief conversation turned into the kind of connection that makes you forget the rest of the group exists, extending long past everyone else’s departure. Fast-forward and suddenly I’m hiding at the cliffside near Sunset Bench, camera ready, pretending to photograph seagulls like it’s my job. (It is. Kind of.) After a head scratching symbol from Tim, I knew it was “go” time.
The La Jolla Cliffside That Understood the Assignment
If you’ve ever wondered why couples search for a La Jolla engagement photographer or a cliffside proposal photographer in San Diego, let me paint the picture.
The ocean was doing that glassy, blue-green thing it only does in La Jolla Ca, especially when the underwater visibility is at its best. The cliffs were glowing in soft golden light. The sky was flirting with sunset colors—peach, blush, and a little “are you kidding me right now?”
And the air? Warm. In Winter. One of those rare Southern California evenings where you don’t need a jacket and everything feels a little magical. Sunset Bench sat quietly nearby, like it knew it was about to witness something big.
Why La Jolla Proposals Hit Different
I photograph a lot of love stories, but there’s something about a La Jolla cliffside proposal near Sunset Bench that just hits differently.
Maybe it’s the wild beauty of the coastline.
Maybe it’s the way the light wraps around you at golden hour.
Maybe it’s the fact that La Jolla has a way of making big moments feel even bigger.
Whatever it is, Tim and Cory’s proposal felt timeless—like it belonged exactly where and when it happened.
And as a beach proposal photographer in San Diego, I can confidently say: this is why I do what I do.
