Little Oliver turned one recently so his parents, grandparents, sister and I headed to Coronado for some candid photography and a little cake celebration. I love to photograph families in Coronado sand dunes and surrounding area because you really can’t beat the backdrop. But, did you know that there is a secret message written in the dunes? Apparently, there was a huge storm that caused hundreds and hundreds of pounds of seaweed to collect on the beach back in the 80’s. There was a maintenance worker in charge of clearing it all but didn’t know what to do with it until he hatched the perfect plan. He started piling the seaweed into large mounds but went a step further. He wrote out the word CORONADO with the seaweed, so from an arial view it is perfectly visible. It has since grown in to something absolutely beautiful and is a must see if you are ever in the area.
