A Coronado Beach Proposal Photographer gets a front-row seat to some pretty incredible moments, but every now and then, a wedding proposal unfolds with layers of surprise that it’s impossible not to smile behind the camera. CJ somehow managed to pull off exactly that for Veronica.

CJ and Veronica call San Diego home, so Coronado Beach couldn’t have been a more fitting place to start the next chapter of their story. With the ocean stretching out behind them and the evening light doing what California sunsets do best, CJ led Veronica to a spot, near the Hotel Del Coronado, and asked the question she’d been waiting for—just not on that particular day.

If you know Veronica, you know she’s incredibly observant. She’s the kind of person who usually notices when something feels even slightly out of place. Somehow, CJ managed to plan an entire surprise proposal without tipping her off completely. That’s an accomplishment worth celebrating all on its own.

The surprise didn’t end with the ring.

Moments after Veronica said yes, family members began making their way toward the newly engaged couple. CJ’s parents and siblings, along with Veronica’s parents, had traveled from across the country to celebrate with them. Until that moment, Veronica had no idea anyone else was involved. Watching the realization slowly sink in as one familiar face after another appeared was one of those genuine, emotional moments that can’t be recreated.

After plenty of hugs and happy tears, I photographed some family portraits so they would always remember not just the proposal itself, but the people who made the day even more meaningful. Afterwards, we wandered around Coronado beach for engagement photography while everyone soaked in the excitement.

One of my favorite details was when the CJ popped champagne and his mom brought out custom cookies created just for the occasion. It was the perfect way to celebrate time together before everyone headed The Henry restaurant, to continue celebrating.

Long before this unforgettable day, CJ and Veronica’s story started 3 years ago in Seattle, where friends decided they’d be the perfect match. Some introductions work out better than anyone expects, and theirs is proof that good friends sometimes know exactly what they’re doing.
