Some photo sessions feel more like hanging out than anything too formal—especially boat family photos. That’s exactly how it went with the Moegling family. They had just welcomed a new sailboat into their lives after a six-month delay—so yes, the Christmas card timeline had come and gone—but that didn’t stop them from wanting to document this new chapter.

Like most dads, he wasn’t looking for anything over-the-top. No big setups. Just a few solid family photos on the boat, something simple and meaningful, with a nod to their love of the water. I met them at their San Diego marina, where the boat was docked and ready for its close-up.

We started with relaxed shots on deck. The family wore coordinating outfits, nothing too matchy, just enough to pull it together. Their twins were full of energy, exploring the boat in their matching Dalmatian shoes—easily the highlight of the session. They made my job easy just by being themselves.
