When this family of nine—six adults, three kids (ages 6, 3, and 1), and approximately one million giggles—came looking for a La Jolla family photographer, they had one non-negotiable request: the San Diego tide pools at low tide. And honestly? They nailed it. Because if you’re going to gather the whole crew for a San Diego family photography session, you might as well do it somewhere in La Jolla that looks like Mother Nature’s own VIP section.

The family was staying in Mission Beach, just soaking up that classic laid-back San Diego vibe. They were smart to include family portraits, while everyone was together, before heading back north (a solid two-hour drive away, but totally worth the trip). And when we met at the tide pools, La Jolla did not disappoint. Low tide revealed a playground of mossy rocks, shimmering pools, and tiny marine life putting on a show.
