Some people you meet at the store, you smile politely, nod, and move on with your day. And then there’s Diego—the dog who made me drop everything, while running errands in La Jolla, because LOOK AT THAT FACE. This wasn’t just any dog. This was a dashing gentleman in a bow tie, strutting around like he owned the 92037 zip code. Naturally, I introduced myself (to his human too, don’t worry), and before you could say “who’s a good boy,” we had dog portraits on the beach booked!
As a lifestyle photographer in La Jolla who’s obsessed with dogs (yes, yours too), I live for this stuff. Diego wasn’t just photogenic—he was a total vibe. He gave model behavior with just enough goofiness to keep things delightfully unpredictable. One minute, he’s posing like a seasoned professional with the breeze perfectly fluffing his ears. The next, he’s nose-diving into the sand like he’s on a squirrel hunt. Iconic.
We took our session to the gorgeous La Jolla coastline, which always delivers those swoon-worthy views, even if you’re covered in dog fur. Diego’s bow tie popped against the pastel skies, and every shot captured that sweet snuggle-butt energy that made me fall in love with him in the first place. Let’s be real—dogs like Diego aren’t just pets. They’re full-fledged family members. And if you’ve got a pup who’s basically your fur child, then you know exactly what I mean.
Here’s the deal, though—some beaches in San Diego (rude!) have rules about dogs, especially during certain hours. But lucky for all of us, San Diego is incredibly dog-friendly. From the off-leash wonderland of Ocean Beach Dog Beach to the more low-key vibes of Fiesta Island, we’ll find the perfect sandy spot where your pup can shine like the star they are.
Whether you want a full dog photography session or want to include your pup in your family portraits, I’ve got the know-how, patience, and an arsenal of squeaky toys to make it happen. Dogs wiggle, get distracted, and sometimes try to eat seaweed—don’t worry. I’ve seen it all, and I’m here for every hilarious, heartwarming moment.
