Planning a photo shoot in San Diego requires some preparation, but the end result is worth every effort. As a beach lifestyle photographer, I strive to capture the carefree and fun-loving essence of couples against the beautiful coastal scenery.
To ensure a smooth experience, it’s essential to plan ahead and check the tides for your desired location. Often times, many of the beaches are underwater at high tide. The City of San Diego offers a tide chart website where you can check these things ahead of time. Keep in mind that if you want a sunset session, the tide may be high the entire time you are visiting San Diego. In that case, your photographer can recommend the proper beaches for that. By starting the planning process early, you can secure your preferred location and make necessary arrangements.
San Diego is blessed with more than 250 days of sunshine and mild weather each year. However, it’s always wise to prepare for potential weather changes. Wind can be a factor for beach photography session so be sure to keep that in mind.
When it comes to beach engagement photos, Cuvier Park, also known as the wedding bowl, is a popular choice. Located along the scenic La Jolla coastline, this spot offers breathtaking views and serves as a beautiful backdrop for capturing your love. Its where I got married and has incredibly stunning views! We just have to make sure there isn’t a wedding being performed at that time. Windansea Beach is another favorite, with a thatched hut and rocky cliff side mingled with soft sand beaches makes it my #1 spot.
Another fantastic location for engagement photos is Sunset Cliffs, situated along Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. The sunset cliffs nature park offers various picturesque spots and ample guest parking, making it convenient for your photo session.
